Meet The Creator
Fox & Ivy Creations is a one woman show by me, Carly Fox, with inspiration from my girls and the mountain life in Whistler, BC, Canada.
Originally from Australia I grew up at the beaches but always loved my time in the NSW Snowy Mountains. A keen skier at the age of 3, I always loved Aussie Winters and trips at Perisher Resort and choosing my beanie from stores in Cooma or Jindabyne.
When I first came to Canada in 2005 and was now wearing a ‘toque’ 7 days a week, 6 or more months of the year, it became apparent quickly that not all toques are created equally. I spent some rainy days off of the mountain learning crochet from a friend and through years of experimenting I have found my favourite yarns and techniques to work with to create what I think are some of the coziest, unique, long wearing, easy to care for toques around.
Products are created with a combination of new and upcycled materials and sourced both locally from Canadian yarn artists and commercial sources.
Our Goal is to keep you warm in winter with cozy toques & headwear and keep kids entertained and comforted by our range of cozy, cuddly handmade toys. Wherever possible we use upcycled and sustainable materials and practices including minimal packaging with reusable compostable bags for all shipped products.
Materials
There are so many great big brand yarn manufacturers and loads of independent high quality yarn wizards across the planet. Currently I use a combination of both, depending on the project. My chunky toques and slippers are mostly created with Lion Brand Thick N Quick Wool Blend yarn. It's cost effective, super soft and warm and is machine washable.
Our slouchy toques are created with Canadian small batch hand dyed Merino wool from the Mineville Wool Project in Nova Scotia & Ancient Arts Yarn from Alberta. Both make the most amazingly soft, warm and breathable coziness for the Winter months and cool Summer evenings.
I love to experiment with other materials and am often looking into eco-friendly options for other products.
Sustainable Practices
We upcycle materials wherever possible. Our booties use an upcycled faux suede sole with upcycled t-shirt yarn for the ties on the booties.
Our cuddlies and poms are filled with an upcycled polyfil from repurposed couch cushions. Many of our materials and textiles for tie dyeing are sourced from second-hand sources. Reusable compostable postage for all items shipped from Canada.
